Travelling by Taxi Brousse

Country forums / Africa / Madagascar

Hi
I was wondering how easy it is to get a taxi-brousse at places between major towns e.g if I was to return from Beza-Mahafaly and wanted to travel towards Tana would it be difficult to get transportation after getting back to RN7?
Thanks

Hi
If you reach the RN7, to have taxi brousse to Tana is a little bit difficult. Effectively, as taxi brousse choose mainly passengers who will do the travel Toliara to Tana, all their seats are already full from their departure, only some late taxi brousse will have one or two chairs for people doing the halfway. So I suggest you to take the contact of a taxi brousse cooperative when you are in Toliara, pay a part of the ticket when you are there for a place booking and the day you will be in the RN7, ask him if your place is ok. It should be possible

Hi,
If I was you I'd travel back to Tulear to catch a taxibrousse back to Tana I would suggest this for the following reasons:
1. I would not like to get stranded at Andranovory (village at RN7 crossroads) overnight for security and comfort reasons.

2. I presume you are travelling from Beza by taxibrousse and would suggest you plan for the unexpected. Break down, flat tire or other delay you might arrive at Andranovory too late for your connection if you made prior arrangements such as making a reservation.
3. When booking a taxibrousse. You can choose the vehicle and your place inside the vehicle. Choose a new vehicle that has tires in good condition to avoid breakdown or at worst accident. Never pay your full fare when booking because it is likely you will end being put on another taxibrousse.
If you insist on trying your luck at Andranovory there is a restaurant with basic bungalows if you get stranded.
Good Luck.

John
