Traveling with 11 and 8 year-old kidsCountry forums / UK & Ireland / Ireland
Hello, just looking for suggestions. I have an 11 year-old son and 8 yo daughter. We probably have about 2 weeks in August to travel. I guess the experience that I am hoping for includes the scenery as well as the friendliness that the Irish are known for. I have had great times meeting Irish folks while traveling abroad. And while I do want to see the cities, the countryside and village life seems more appealing. Anything that I can't miss? What was the best part of the trip for your kids of similar ages? Oh, and does it have to be super expensive? I realize I won't be spending pesos, but I am a budget traveler. Thanks.
I am Irish and currently travelling with a 3 and 5 yo. Regarding accommadation self-catering can be pricey...I'm thinking around €1400 and upwards for 2 weeks in august...so you might want to consider a Hostel where you would have your own room, access to shared area and ability to self -cater. I googled hostels in the town and this one is central http://www.grapevinedingle.com/hostel.htm The sorts of things the kids can enjoy at that time of year are surfing and sailing lessons...many beaches, horseriding...walks in the mountains (I'd recommend climbing Mt Eagle on a clear day ...stunning and easy enough)...there are good walking clubs in the area, enquire at the tourist office...there is a corn maze...which is fun..boat trip to the blasket islands...boat trip to see fungi the local friendly wild dolphin...on really wet days my kids love the Dingle Aquarium....the weather is not at all reliable so bring total body rain gear and be prepared to get out in it anyway. There are reasonable eateries and pricey ones too. I love | 1
