Traveling route

Hi,
I'm planning to travel this summer in spain, what route would you recommend for a solo backpacker wanting to see new places, meet new people and maybe hike a little?

How long have you got?

Easiest places to find other backpackers are the major cities, like Madrid, Barcelona and Seville for example.

Do you speak Spanish?

As for hiking...lots of places, though it's pretty hot in summer!

You might want to get up into the mountains. Pyrenees for example, or the Picos De Europa....

Couple of weeks more or less until in the north and meet my family there (vigo area), unfortunately no spanish, but I speak italian and good english.

If you're going to Galicia, you might try walking the last part of the Camino de Santiago?

Santiago is also a good place to hang out and to meet other travellers.

Or the Picos mentioned above are not too far.Combo maybe with Salamanca, Leon etc.

How much time do I need if I want to add some places in the south? Malaga, Sevilla etc...
I've planned starting in valencia and traveling the southern coast and the portugal border area...

Do you plan to rent a car? If you're depending in public transport, I think Madrid is pretty much the hub for all routes. Routes along the Mediterranean coast are much less frequent and more expensive. Was it so that the duration of your trip is completely open? I'm asking because I might consider dropping Valencia if I were you. It does not really make sense as a starting point unless it's a city you don't want to miss. You'll probably find best flights to Madrid and from there, you can easily reach both Andalucía and Galicia, even by bus.

yes I will be depending on public transport, are you sure that there are no buses along the coast? between valencia-murcia for example... I'll have about 3 weeks. planning on valencia-murcia-andalucia and maybe finish in madrid.
