Traveling by land from Ecuador. How are the conditions in Peru ?

Hello, I'm making my way towards Peru from Ecuador. I heard the border was closed a few weeks back, wondering if it's open again and if the roads are safe to travel. Also, which places are recommended to visit since I'm heading south by land. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
