Travel to Oman

Country forums / Middle East / Oman

Hi guys,

Looking to travel to Oman for a week in October from the UAE by car.

Does anyone have any particular suggestions as to things to do / see in Oman?

I have been told that Masirah island, Nizwa, and the sand dunes are all worth seeing.

Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi there!

Oman has loads of things to do! If you're staying for just a week, I'd recommend two days in Muscat.

Nizwa is a little gem and in a ray of 60km there's a lot to see, including Al Hoota Caves, many towns with impressive fortresses, Jebel Shams, which is the country's tallest mountain and the Canyon.

South of Muscat you should visit the Wadis, the sleepy town of Sur and the impressive Wahiba Sands. Salalah, is in the extreme south of the country, about 12 hours non-stop drive from Muscat, but the best months to visit the city is between July and September.

Oman is a gem of a place, but with one week and overland travel you are a bit limited.

The sand dunes in the Wahiba desert are beautiful:

as is the coast south of Muscat. In one week you might do a loop covering Muscat, Nizwa and the Wahiba desert.
