Travel Time: Ciudad Juarez/ Border Cross/ El Paso Airport

Hi. I am considering flying to ciudad juarez and then crossing the border and heading towards el paso airport for a flight. does anyone have any idea how long it takes to walk across the border? any idea of distances between each airport and the border?

Depends on the border. Minimum figure about 30 mins to get to the border from the airport, then anything from 15-90 minutes to walk cross depending on when you do it, then 15 minutes from the border to the El Paso airport. Its expensive too, taxi in Mexico to the border will run you close to $20 because airport taxis are expensive and its way out on the edge of town, then another $15-20 from the border to the El Paso airport. There are shuttles on the El Paso side, not sure about the Juarez to El Paso route, but they probably won't be much cheaper than the DIY taxi route. Only edge might be they take a quicker border crossing.

Be sure to consider the time zone differences between where you are flying in from, Juarez and El Paso. I don't remember exactly what the deal was but I remember the times in El Paso and Juarez being different. One hour one way or the other could muck up your plans.

It has been many years since I lived in El Paso, but if you are crossing at the downtown bridge, you are not 15 minutes from the EP airport. More like 45 on a good day taking the freeway.

If you are planning on trying to cross during a busy time of the day, you might ask your taxi driver in Juárez to take you to the Zaragosa Bridge. It's more on the outskirts of town so there is less traffic and it's closer to the El Paso airport, in my opinion. One caveat, however, last time I crossed here on foot (two years ago) there were no taxis waiting on the U.S. side, so I had to call one from a pay phone located nearby. I don't remember having to wait for too long, though. Your driver in Juárez might be able to radio someone ahead of time so you don't have to wait. I would plan on two hours though, just to play it safe, especially if your trying to make a flight. Safe travels.
