| pazu18:21 UTC29 Aug 2007 | Depends on where you're heading to, I think travelling in Lhasa during Nov and December is amazingly wonderful, things are cheaper, you can rent a "standard room" (two people room, with attached shower room, hot water) for around Y800 for a whole month (Check out the "Phuntsok Khasang Youth Hostel", we stayed there for a few months last year.) And it tends to be cheaper to rent a jeep.
The downside is that you may be strucked in Lhasa, nowhere else to go because of the snow and bad road condition. Going to Namtso during this period and you'll find a frozen lake. Some may like it, some not. But Lhasa is okay, many tourists said Lhasa is too touristy now, but winter seems to be a peaceful period for this holy city and I like it a lot. You'll also have more chances to meet or hook up with other Tibetans as this is the "hibernation period", nothing much to do except drinking lots of sweet tea at the teahouses.
Another problem during the winter time in Lhasa, it's pretty cold for me, I'm origination from the tropical zone so it may actually be my personal problem. But Lhasa can be as cold as -12C during night in December, and most places don't have any central heating system.
