Travel from Koh samui to Koh Phangan

Hi there,

I am going on my 1st trip to thailand in February. The plan is to go to Koh Phangan from koh Samui but my flight arrives at 10pm. Is there any way to get to Koh Phangan that time in the night? I checked a couple of websites and they say that the last ferry boat from Koh Samui is at 4:30 pm. does anyone know if there are boats later or if I can get a water taxi etc.

Unless you will pay for a private speedboat charter, no boats will leave Samui at that time of the evening/night.
My advice is to get a night on Samui near Bang Rak, very near to the airport and the next morning get either the Seatran ferry over to Thongsala from their Bang Rak pier or the Haad Rin Queen to Haad Rin.

The Samui mermaid Resort is a good, cheap and convenient place to stay.

Thanks so much for the advice. Have you got any idea how much it would cost to hire a speedboat? Do people do that normally?

Like Limbo says, forget the speedboat - apart from the expense there's the safety issue. Do like he suggests and get a place in Bangrak (Big Buddha) close to the airport and get a boat in the morning. There's also a boat that leaves from Maenam beach next door at 12.00 which goes to Thong Nai Pan Noi, calling in at several beaches on the east coast of Phangan en route. Besides the safety issue that Mozziebite issues these speedboats are very expensive, think 5 figures in THB. Beaches are not well lit on KP and all around a not a very good idea if you want to enjoy your stay on KP.

I have used speedboats regularly and if you are going to Thongsala (or baan tai where they will likely run) and have proper running lights it is no big deal if you are willing to pay. not so bad if there are a bunch of you and you just want to get there.

Quite honestly, you can have quite a night in bophut with accommodation for the 5 k you save. have a steak at the shack instead.
