Travel Companion Wanted

Country forums / Africa / Ghana

Hi People
I'm interested in travelling to Ghana or West Africa and would like some company.
I've been to Ghana before back in 2004 and loved it. I'd like to go back or to some neighbouring countries and are looking for a person to travel with.

I'm 34yrs single male. Very friendly and good sense of humour. Willing to take on or travel with all walks of life.

I've nothing boked yet so open to dates and routes etc. I'm from Leeds, England.

Thanks, look forward to hearing from you.

When are you planning on going & how were you intending to get there.

I'm hoping to do a drive down from southern France & will be taking people along the way to help contribute to fuel etc in a vehicle for a NGO in Cote d'Ivoire.

Not sure when possibly late November/early December, maybe earlier. I will put a message up when dates are clearer

Hi,
Sounds interesting.
Driving straight through?
What entry port?

2

Aiming to do it in 2 weeks, starting from Tangiers & straight down.

When I know dates etc, I will post them on here to offer lifts down

Me and my boyfriend will be in Senegal in November, Mali in early December and Ghana from mid-December - rough plan. Would be very interested in sharing a car Kira if you pass through those countries and if you have space (will watch the board for your plans when you post them). Am also keen on going to Cote d'Ivoire but have been warned against travelling through the north from Mali - is this only a problem on public transport?

Andrew get in touch if our plans match yours at all!

M, could be interesting!

The north of CI is fine at the moment, I'm ideally looking at going down just before the elections (29th Nov) and getting over the border beforehand but it's doubtful, so I will have an eye on the press! The north was difficult before when the rebels controlled it, but it's generally fine now, public transport or otherwise.

I definitely won't be wanting to go into Senegal, I'll be crossing Mauri-Mali then down into CI on the road that's near the Burkina border which isn't in too bad shape apparently compared with the Senguela road.

Makes sense! Keep me posted on your plan - perhaps we could join you from Mali down through CI to make our own way to Ghana. Good luck with the planning and I'll be watching the press too!

Hi,
Would you be interested in having one person tag along for the whole trip?
No stops needed!
Is any part of the trip a yellow fever area?

7

Feel like I've hijacked the thread!!!

Michelle, keep in touch!
South of 60; it could be a possibility, there may be two of us, my hardened Italian friend may join the ride too, leaving enough room to cater for a total of 5!

Whatever, it'll be hard going (in terms of time) but fun!

Kira

8

Kira you forget Okoto from Abidjan. I am planning to join you from Mali, if you manage to change your dream to reality.

9

I've not forgotten you, you have a reserved place on the roof!!! Anyway I thought you told me from Morocco?!

Kira

10

Hi,
Exactly what kind of vehicle are we talking about here???
What sort of fuel burn?

11

Its a minibus; not sure of consumption I hope to have it donated to me shortly awaiting an email

Kira

12

OK no problem if you supply one crate of beer/day than i can sit in the VIP place.

13

Thanks people, great response. I'll reply individual once I've got a minute at work. Thanks again.

Hi Andrew
I've booked one way trip to Accra arriving on december 16. I'm planning on staying in western Africa between two to six months and visit at least Burkina Faso, Togo and Benin. Give me a message if you're interested!

15

Greetings -
Kira, indeed you have hijacked the thread! My husband and I are flying into Madrid on 10/20 and were then planning on spending several weeks in Morocco before heading south to Ghana. It sounds as if your vehicle might already be full, but if not, we would be interested in sharing the ride/expense, etc. Please keep us in mind if you are interested or in need of travel companions.

16

Hmm, I am open to where I go, but have a month over Xmas. Maybe I'll go to Ghana!! Had previously thought of Namibia, Okavanga delta or Cuba. No-one seems to be going to the first two!

17

Hi Andrew,
I'm probably coming into this dialogue at the point that you posted the initial request for a travelling companion so bear with me. I am currently in Gambia waiting for my friend and travelling companion to return to the UK, unfortunately for medical reasons. She has been here since January. I joined her in July staying in and around the Casamance region of Senegal. Our intention was to travel to all of the West African countries, culminating in Ghana, looping back though Burkina Faso, on up into Mali, probably a boat ride down the Niger, back to Senegal, and then home, possibly overland through Mauritania, Western Sahara and Morocco.
If you are interested please let me know. I will be in Gambia for a few more days waiting for some charitable donations to arrive at Banjul port and clear customs. I will then deliver said items to a village called Ndongane, near Bounkiling, Senegal, record the event for the people back in the uk and then start my travels in earnest.
I have no fixed agenda as such just a vague idea as to what I would like to see and do. I will be in West Africa until June/July of next year.

I'll be going home to South Africa for an extended period (Jan-April '10) so if you're there during that time why not drop me a line on bridgot2@gmail.com. Am planning to do some travelling myself and it would be fun to have a good laugh on the way...

19

Hey!

In the end I've booked to go to Cuba instead, but would love to make it to Namibia some time!

Hi Peter
Sorry for delay, not checked in here for a while.
I've nothing booked or planned yet and are still open to suggestions and hopefully linking in with someone.
Ideally I want to come to ghana around 18 dec and return back 4 jan to the UK. I was hoping to fly ouf of burkina faso, try and take in either togo or benin briefly. I've been in touch with a sweedish lad and he shows interest also.
Let me know how you still stand. Thanks again Peter.

Andrew
andrew_murphy@postmaster.co.uk might be better on my email. Thanks
