translation for globetrotter

Interest forums / Speaking in Tongues

hello dear all
whould you mind translating this word into as many languages as you know? I would be very happy
trottamundos, globetrotter

'Trotamundos', whith one 't', in Spanish.

Where are heading for?

1

in German: Weltenbummler

2

in Bahasa Indonesia: penjelajah dunia

3

In Finnish: maailmanmatkaaja

4

--
In catalan: RODAMÓN.

5

in french: globe-trotter or "voyageur à travers le monde"
"trotter" means "to run around", "to trot about" and even "to wonder"

The French use the word 'globe-trotter'. There was even a 1960's TV series called Les Globe-trotters starring Yves Rénier and Edward Meeks. I would say that the plots were exactly the same as in Route 66, except that they happened all over the world.

7

'Puteshestvennik' in Russian? Although that could just be 'traveller'.

8

Obieżyświat - Polish

You can certainly add "mirovyi" (world traveller)

Just out of curiosity, is maailmanmatti used interchangably?

My grandfather was known as a maailmanmatti even though his name wasn't matti.

11

There's a nice word from old Turkish (presumably it was used in Farsi first): seyyah-ı âlem

12

Yeah, you can use that interchangably.

13

Wereldreiziger (world traveller) in Dutch, but "globetrotter" (pronounced as if it were of Dutch origin) is used too.

14

In Danish they just use "globetrotter"now. An older Danish word is "jordomrejser", which can mean "globetrotter" or just "round the world trip"

15

Czech: svìtobìžník

16

#11 & #13: Funny, I've never ever heard maailmanmatti. Is it common?

Another word, or rather, the literal translation for globetrotter in Finnish would be pallontallaaja.

17

In Texas: Gadabout

18

Hungarian : világjáró

I am far from an expert. All I know is that my grandfather was considered a maailmanmatti because he traveled a lot. It may be old usage. Google seems to confirm its existence.

20

I have to admit that I hadn't heard it either -- I googled and found a site where they said it can mean the same.

according to my father - Lazy bints who cant be bothered getting a real job….
