Transit and passport requirements

Country forums / South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula / Singapore

I am travelling to Australia in less than a month and will be there for 11 weeks. I stop off in Bangkok on the way out and Singapore on the way back. My passport expires in September - will this be a problem? As far as i can tell, it is not a problem for Oz as they are happy with a current passport and don't have a 6month rule. I won't be going through passport control in either Bangkok or Singapore, just stop there for a couple of hours and re-board the plane. Does anyone know if I might encounter any problems?

Imo (and this is just opinion) it shouldnt be a problem. To make sure, contact the airline you're flying with because if anything goes wrong they are responsible for getting you home again.

Technically you need to have 6 clear months left on your passport.. even if you are only transitting...

However.. you may get away with your old passport... then again you may not...

Ask your airline.. They will decide if you get on that flight or not...

Why not just get a new passport now and be done with it?

Bangkok no longer has the 6 month rule. Your passport has to be valid just for the period of stay.
