Train ticket question and Hurtigruten questionCountry forums / Scandinavia & the Nordics / Norway
Hi all,
Thanks for any replies :)
The question about the Hurtigruten seem to overlap, that you can by a point to point ticket, in that you buy the same that involves a cabin. | 1
You can exit Oslo S while waiting for the connecting train to Bergen, yes. | 2
Thanks eiriku for the clarification! Hi jedgerandclyde, perhaps my question was vague. I was asking if not booking a cabin is viable for an overnight ferry during March, and how comfortable would it be spending the night at the lounge/deck. Thanks. | 3
Yeah, i see what you mean but i guess it all comes down to your requirements, and how well you would sleep in places that are not designed for that. There are some places that you could get your head down, and i guess i would not get much sleep, but others could i suppose. Not dodging the question, but we did do the return journey and never seen anybody hassled in public areas trying to sleep, and there are places to can try to sleep, but how you would sleep is another question i guess. | 4
Yes it's possible to sleep on board, most or all ships have a "quiet" lounge. You may have to book in adnavce even w/o a cabin since the ships have a fixed capacity, but I guess it's not likely to be full in March. | 5
I doubt you will need to book ahead as a walk on pasenger. I slept for 4 nights in the lounge area by the bar on the Hurtigruten from Hammerfest to Bergen. I had a sleeping bag and slept really well. You are not stuck in a seat and and ly down completley. I was generallly by myself and undisturb as most people went to there cabin at night. | 6
Hey there, about the train... the 499 price tag seems like a "minipris" (especially since the price is exactly the same from sentrum as gardamoen) and the small print on those tickets is you HAVE to board the train you book/pay for. So if you got that one, you'd most likely not be able to have a 2 hour stop in Oslo S. you could get the minipris from S to Bergen and foot the airport express train bill (which is about 190 NOK I think). :) | 7
Thanks jedgerandclyde, bjornmu & gerardkenny for your inputs! Hey RTWin80000days, yes its a minipris. The minipris cost from airport to Bergen is the same as the minipris cost from Oslo S to Bergen! I was trying to save the amount from airport to Oslo S and still enjoy my 2hr transit outside instead of in the train station or airport! | 8
If that Minipris ticket includes 2h between trains, surely you can go out. There are luggage lockers available at Oslo S. You can e.g. go out on the roof (!) of the nearby opera building. If your flight is late and you miss your local train departure from Gardermoen, I think your ticket will be accepted also on later departures; those trains don't have seat reservations. If you miss your train to Bergen however, you will have to buy a new ticket. | 9
Hi bjornmu, | 10 | |
for q one... the train from the airport is a different company, so no problem to exit. if you have two hours i would store the luggage in a box at the central station, and see the opera house. its quite nice, and only two minutes from oslo s :) | 11
No, the train from the airport will also be NSB if you have bought a ticket with them. It will not be with the faster but more expensive Flytoget. | 12
