traditional hainan?

Interest forums / Older Travellers

looking for any info about hainan. i'm curious about people's experiences on beaches but moreso about experiences travelling through the centre of the island. are there many villages to visit? i have read there are miao and li villages there. would they be nice to visit?

thanks!

I have lived on Hainan for the past 5 years, most of it in the "middle" a you say in the smallest city in China, Wuzhishan. It is a great place, but don't tell anyone else about it. There are plenty of small villages and farms on the side of the mountains, mostly farmed by the Li people with some Miao closer to the coast. As close to a traditional life style as can be lived in China is practiced by the Li and Miao, and it's interesting to wander up in the mountains and see the old ways... If you send me a msg to my e-mail address I would be glad to tell you more. You don't list a location in your info so I'm curious why you would ask this about Hainan. Most people don't even know we exist...
