traditional ballrooms in Barcelona

Country forums / Western Europe / Spain

Hello to everybody, how are you? I would like to know if there are traditional ballrooms in Barcelona; not exactly disco clubs but places where Spanish people want to go for dance flamenco, for instance or others traditional dances. Any in formations?

Flamenco is traditional in the south and is only danced in Barcelona for tourists. There used to be ballrooms (salas de baile) -I remember going to one years ago with friends-, but I don't know where there is one now. Paso Doble and that type of dance are or were more typically danced in Barna.

Your best bet is to find a local fiesta (there are tons). They usually have live bands that play salsa and all the old favorites. People of all ages get up and dance.

The traditional dance of Catalunya is the Sardana. You can see locals dancing it every Sunday at 1PM in front of the main cathedral in Barcelona, with a live band too. You can even join in too. It looks easy, but it is deceiving. Give it a try!
