Too much of a gamble to head to Andaman coast in July?

Country forums / Thailand / Thailand

Would I be unwise to go to the Andaman coast side of Thailand in July? I know we cannot predict the weather but I'm kind of wondering as a general rule would this be unwise? Also, if we did go and it was terrible weather how easy is it to get to an area like the Koh Tao islands? I have had my heart set on those beautiful karst landscapes by the sea (Railay/Hong islands etc.) and I do want to snorkel + dive. This is probably the last chance I will have to do a trip like this for many years and I live in Ireland so I see enough wet + cold weather! Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

Not good time for snorkelling in July at Krabi side. Can still visit though maybe just cloudy with rain every hour or so if you are lucky. Railay beach west is expensive and overdeveloped though , perhaps stay at Tonsai beach instead. Plenty of transport to get to the Samui side if you decide. If snorkelling is a priority could you make a diversion down to east coast of Malaysia down to Kapas island of Marang ? Good weather and there is snorkelling there.

For sure it won't be cold. You will probably see some rain though, maybe a lot.

As dave mentions its not a good time for snorkelling, better on the East Coast that time of year.If you can only go in July and don't have a lot of time then I'd head to one of the Gulf islands...

In the early of July, the rain and wetness are unavoidable things but it might be better than the northwest of Thailand.
