Tobacco Caye Lodging

Country forums / Central America / Belize

I'm looking to stay on Tobacco Caye for about 4 days in early August to relax and scuba dive the local area. Has anyone any particular recommendations of accomodation over another? I was thinking of Tobacco Caye Lodge or Reefs End. I've tried to contact www.tobaccocayediving.com via their website but no reply in the last 2 weeks.
Also tried to contact Tobacco Caye Lodge but their website www.tclodgebelize.com says "site suspended" which sounds a bit ominous. I've also tried contacting both through a Belize accomodation website that allegedly sends messages to them but again nothing.
Any tricks I'm missing?
Considering it'll be August, could I just show up in Dangria and book from there? Or even go out to the island and look first before buying? If it's not too risky (in that everything would be full) would it be better to score a good rate last minute on site?

It is not like all the places will be full in august. I would just go. There is a place called Gaviotas with little cabins that I like the best.

We stayed at Tobacco Caye Lodge a year ago and loved it. The manager Barb is lovely. Here are the phone numbers 011-501-520-5033 or 011-501-227-6247 and I found the phone numbers for you but the website is back up and running so you can email too bookings@tclodgebelize.com

The island is tiny, tiny tiny and the phone/internet only works when all the moons align but I'd say call over email if you need to know info.

Thanks for reply about their website. I'd like to stay but they don't seem to good at replying to emails. Have sent a couple in the last week and not heard anything back. Anyone else had better luck with that email address?

Just go. There will be a room for you. It is not necessary to reserve this time of the year.

Greggo is right it wont be busy and Gaviota is nice.. you will need to get a water taxi so call captain Fermin at 011 501 509 8632/ cell 501 666 8699. www.gaviotareefresort.net.. H e usually in Dangrega every morning leaves around 11.00 - 12.00 but best to call just incase. He also manages Gaviota cabins.. I kind of think the dive shop has closed. at least it was when I was there about 5 weeks ago...
If you email Fermin he can tell you what is the best to do about diving adn if the shop is actually closed now.
Tobacco Caye is cool..enjoy.
