To Jamaica for Christmas, need recommendation for lodging

Country forums / Caribbean / Jamaica

Hi:
Our family of five will go to Jamaica next week for 6 days (Christmas). We would like to get an authentic feel of Jamaica so we will not stay in a resort and will drive a rental car. My current plan is to stay for 2 nights in Negril and then head to Treasure Beach for 3-4 days. Do you think this is a good plan?

In Negril we plan to stay in Samsara Resort. Please comment if this is a good place to stay and go to beaches.

Our children are age 7-11. Can you recommend a good guesthouse/villa to stay in Treasure Beach area? My budge is < $150 for our family if possible.

Any suggestion for must-see places for children in Negril and Treasure Beach or adjacent areas? Thanks in advance!

your budget is US$150 per night?

Samsara is on the cliffs, not the beach. However, they have a sister resort, Legends, on the beach where you can use their facilities. My suggestion would be to either stay in Negril OR Treasure Beach, and not split up the time. Treasure Beach will give a more authentic Jamaican experience. The beach in Negril is nicer.

Regards,'

Bob

ackeepod: Yes, sometimes we have to rent two rooms for our family and that makes the cost twice high.

Bob: Thank you for your suggestions. I am trying to see as much Jamaica as possible, thus the splits bwteen Negril and TB. But will consider your suggestion. Thank you!

It is ok to split your time between Negril and TB, especially since you are renting a car. The drive from Negril to TB will be about 2 hours.
For a really nice place to stay within your budget is Bebe's Place. It is a short walk acroos the stree from Frenchman Beach.
Have a look at their website at http://www.treasuretoursjamaica.com
For other places to stay and more info on TB look here http://www.treasurebeach.net
A nice tour to do from Frenchman Beach is a boat our up the Black River with a stop at Floyd's Pelican Bar (ask for Bernard/Mr. Nice Guy). Also a sunset cruise on the Shallow Bar, also from Frenchman Beach (with Captain Dennis).
ONE LOVE !!
