Thailand Tunes!

Country forums / Thailand / Thailand

What are those tunes which when you hear they transport you right back to Thailand in general. or for those living here, those which may take you back to your formative years...

Mine

Reign in Blood - Slayer - I had the tape on when I first went to KPG

Sandman - America - my first Bar Girl.

Tubular Bells - reminding me of the reason came back

for me it's Ruk Chun Nun Pue Tur; a corny love song by Rainbow.
and Lou Bega, Mambo #5: a Little bit of Monica in my life.....

yourimminentdoom: Sandman was your first Bar Girl? you mean like a katoey on the beach?

  • Talvin Singh – "Traveller" (Kid Loco's Once Upon A Time In The East Mix)

  • Bob Marley - "Redemption song"

  • "Chillcast" podcasts by Anji Bee (on iTunes)

Burlthai : "you mean like a katoey on the beach?"

Why do it with a LB always on the beach ! It's more quiet hidden in the bungalow, if you dont want Tezza surprise you lol

In the 90's I heard the Vengaboys "We Like to Party" for the first time in BKK. Ah the memories.

6

Many Thais are singing Yingluck tunes hoping for the old days.

7

"In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel
The album "Midnite Vultures" by Beck. Actually anything Beck. I was on a big binge my first time in Thailand.
"Easy Skanking" and "Baby, We Got a Date" by Bob Marley. I would secretly hope every night I was out that they would stop playing Legend and realize that Bob had a whole discography of incredible music to choose from.

When I walked over the tarmac of Don Muang airport in 1985 I was a bit dizzy of the free wine and the cute Singapore Airline girls while listing to "One Night in Bangkok" in my walkman. When entering the total chaos of the arrival hall I knew the song was right!

And after 3 days I was happy that Bangkok was only a stop-over ... hot & dirty city!

Chnag Noi

A part of me misses the dirty old Don Muang.

It's the Thai songs that get me. I can never remember the names though. Think one of them had a squeezebox in it.. love those Issan guitars and high pitched voices as well.

Not that it is a favorite song of mine but “Hello” by Lionel Richie brings back memories of sweaty sheets and stained mattresses.

1984 in Phuket, Soi Bang La was still a dirt track and aids was just a myth...

There was also a Thai pop song of the time...
Ka yep, ka yep, ka yep, khao ma see,...ka say, ka say, khao ma see.

Don't know what that means (I should be ashamed of myself for not indulging in more of the language) but it was popular at the time and I would join in a rendition speeding along on my Honda MTX 125...

I miss those times...
