Te Anau Lakeview Holiday Park and Motel

Country forums / Australia, New Zealand & Antarctica / New Zealand

Warning about staying at this facility, even though its listed in Lonely Planet. Arrived there last week (with a reservation) around 6 pm, with it being totally dark, as its winter there. We went to check in and the employee couldn't believe that we didn't ant to upgrade for another $55 to a bigger room with a great view - something that wasn't so desireable at night and with a 10 am check-out. Put into context, there might've been 4-5 other cars there in a place that must've had 30-40 empty rooms. She then gives us a map to find our unit in a place with little lighting. For $115 we stayed in the worst room of our 10 day trip to South Island. On the way back from Milford Sound, I stopped there to use the wifi, which I knew would still work. The same employee told me that since we'd checked out, we shouldn't be using the wifi. This is a place that doesn't understand the business concept of hospitality. Friendly staff? Hardly.

Really bad room or just poor customer service at the beginning? Did you offer to pay for the wifi? Just trying to read between the lines hete-

1

Really poor customer service, really bad room and no, I didn;t offer to pay for free wifi that's offered by just clicking (no username or password).

2

A staff member tried to up-sell, as is her job, and gave you a map when you chose to keep your existing booking. Then she discouraged you from using the free wifi when you were no longer a guest.

Just how long do you think hotels should continue to offer free services after guests check out? Days? Weeks?

I hardly think this deserves you blasting them on a public forum.

3

When you've been treated as a commodity to make as much profit as possible, even when there are many other choices (vacancies) available, I don't think 5 hrs later is unreasonable. Days or weeks? Get a grip.

4

boppy is correct. This place has done nothing to warrant such a review. " get a grip"?

5

Free wiFi is available 'for guests' - once you have checked out you are no longer a guest. If this is the worst thing that happens to you on your travels you will have a great trip.

Where did you specify in your original post that you had only been gone 5 hours? I'm sure if you had politely asked for permission they'd have let you access their internet, even though you were no longer a guest.

Mike, you booked online and requested the upgrade yourself in the comments section of the booking. On check in you were also given a choice of which unit you required. This "worst room" you describe is a 5 star Holiday Park rated Motel.
Put in context, it is winter time here - days are short and we are not busy at all so have great rates for rooms. You were most probably writing this feedback in our reception whilst grumbling to the receptionist ( who was very friendly to you and politely following policy.) I was listening to the verbal exchange

#9 , thank you for coming back with your take on the story. As for "worst room" , did it have rats, cockroaches as some of the worst rooms we've had in SEA. Or bedbugs as are rife across the USA.

10

No. None of the above. Clean modern unit.

In that case, he's the sort you can do without.
My last time in The Anau was at least 50 years ago on a high school trip and we stayed in the school. Woke to frozen pipes, so merging that didn't happen in. Auckland. And we also stole a plaque from Omarama Jockey Club. Got found and we had to send it back.

Goodness me !! Time you visited again
