| shawnuff02:06 UTC02 Sep 2007 | Hi, I'm a keen ameutuer photographer who will be in morocco for 10 days. I have read that I should not photograph the women and also that if I point my camera at anyone they come over asking for money. Has anyone one encountered any problems that are worse than this? It will mainly be street photos that I will be shooting. Any comments will be grateful. Regards.

| reda_art06:04 UTC02 Sep 2007 | Hi Shawnuff
Im Reda and im from morocco,
I think that's not dangerous to take picture in morocco, However try to be discrete, and i want to say a word about people who ask for money they are like all beggars they think its oppotunity to earn money then .... not all people are beggars. I hope that you will meet nice people and somewhere im sure that you will find them.
Good luck

But in many years of visiting Morocco, I have taken photos everywhere, as I have in dozens of countries. Photography is one of the main reasons I travel, and Morocco is a photographer's paradise. I very rarely ask permission and the only time I have paid is to one of the water sellers, who make their living posing in their colorful costumes. As with everywhere, some people do not want to be photographed. But if I see something I wish to photograph in a public place, I do it as quickly and unobtrusively as I can, and then walk away. You are more likely to have women object in some of the small villages, but even there, it varies. But do NOT take photos of anything that remotely could be considered a military institution, or of policemen, or you will have big trouble. Now...be prepared for various replies from those who claim you should always ask permission, who claim it is an invasion of privacy, etc. etc.
