Syrian visa for US citizenCountry forums / Middle East / Syria
I am currently in Ethiopia and going to Sudan tomorrow. I will be trying to get into Syria via the Jordan border in about 2 weeks. Just going through Syria on my way to Turkey overland. (1) any stories/tips/suggestions for that border welcomed. any other thoughts welcomed.
The Syria visa question is porobably the single most frequently asked question on this branch. In short : Yes, people almost always succeed in getting it at the border. Visas are generally not available at Syrian embassies outside of your country of residence. Browse through this branch for hundreds more posts on the same question. | 1
thanks -- sorry to repost the topic -- I'm at a location where the internet is SOOOO horrible that posting is much, much, much faster than searching. | 2

Michael- Were you successful in obtaining a Syrian visa at the border? I am US citizen living in Kuwait and would like to travel there as well. Do not want to give up my passport for a month, and want to know what is possible. Any info would be most appreciated. | 4
Yep. It was easy. I crossed on the Jordan/Syria border. Arrived at about 2 p.m. Guy at the desk said, "we don't do visas at the border for U.S." I said I know that. He didn't even have to be asked and said, "so we will fax the application to Damascus. It will take a while. Maybe 5 hours." I told him thank you many times. He took my passport and my copy of my passport page. I went next door to a very nice hotel and sat in their business area and used wireless for 5 hours. Came back. Visa was already ready (I was shocked -- I think it might have been ready hours before then). Paid my $16 and moved on. I heard about another American that showed up at 6 a.m. and had to wait until I got mine -- about 7 p.m. I think it might be best to show up around noon to 2 p.m. I think they make you wait until the end of the Damascus business day, no matter when you arrive. | 5
