Sydney on Easter Sunday / Monday

We're arriving into Sydney early on Easter Sunday. We've heard most businesses will be closed. Any advice on what we should try to do that Sunday and Monday? We assume bars will still be open, but what about restaurants?

Government offices, banks, insurance, and other professional firms will be closed, but everything else that tourists usually intersect with, such as retail stores, cinemas, all tourist shops, bars, and almost all dining places, will be open.

One interesting event is the Royal Easter Show ... not for everyone, but it is an institution. There are four codes of football played in Australia, and each could be on show over the long weekend. There will be a lot of events on as well, and a search of Sydney Easter what's on should find them.

Or if the weather is good take a late morning ferry from Circular Quay to Watsons Bay for fish'n'chips, walk around the spectacular headland, take a bus to Bondi Beach, then a final bus to Chinatown for an early dinner. Great day out.

Don't worry - you won't starve. And there's far more to Sydney than shopping (and working), so enjoy the fact that everything else is open. However, please note that it often rains at Easter, so be prepared for rain.

If you want to use public transport, you can buy an Opal card, load $15 each person onto the card, and use that.
All day on the Opal card, for Sun all you pay is $2.50 per person.
Am not sure if Mon public holiday is the same or not.
If flying in, maybe a shuttle bus to hotel is best, as the airport train will be very expensive to use, to get into and out of the 2 airport train stations that is.
Other than that, $2.50 for all day ferry, bus and train is real cheap.
You can surrender the Opal card when you don't need it anymore, you get back the unused credit, there might be a price to buy the card which you don't get back.
If $2.50 carries onto Mon, its the cheapest way to see Syd.
Sun CBD/Bondi Beach/Manly, Mon maybe go up into the Blue Mountains?

And aussiedog makes a good point ... you can o to the Blue Mountains (Katoomba etc) for very little indeed from Central Station - and it is a very good day trip.

Haven't checked to see if Mon public holiday is also $2.50.
When I mention carry over, I meant that Mon public holiday also $2.50, not that Sun $2.50 gave you a trip into Mon.
If Mon public holiday is not $2.50, its max of just $15.

Note that unless you are a pensioner it's impossible to load $15 onto an Opal card at a retailer (like 7Eleven) - you can only put on $10, $20, $30, $40 etc.

Monday will not be a $2.50 fare day.
