Swedish Archipelago in September

My husband and I will be visiting the archipelago mid September (off season) and are looking for recommendations on which islands to visit over 3 days/2 nights. We are backpackers so we don't mind roughing it, but we love good food and drink! I'm not sure how lively the islands will be since it's offseason so I don't know if we should stick to busier islands such as Sandhamn or more excluded islands.
It also seems like the ferries (Stromma.se) only leave in the evenings so we'll have all day Sat and Sun before returning to Stockholm. Please let me know if I'm misinformed.
