surf spot on north-east coastCountry forums / United States of America / United States
Hey, we're travelling from NYC north till Acadia NP in July 2019. Since our kids had some surfing lessons last year and here in Germany there's no possibility to practise, we wondered if there's a possibility this summer on Atlantic.... does anyone know a good place to stay and have some fun? Important for us: Thanks for your advice!
If you search on surf school massachusetts or surf school maine, you might get some useful results. | 1
Long Island, out near Montauk, a break called Ditch Plaines. Not sure about surf shops for board rental, and there is a nearby campground on the ocean. You will need reservations now, as July is high season. You will need 2MM wetsuits, the water is very cold in the north Atlantic. Not for the novice most days. https://offmetro.com/ny/4866/surfing-montauk-rentals-lessons/ | 2
People on the East Coast surf but it doesn't have the popularity you'd find on the West Coast. Part of the problem in the Northeast is the rocky beaches. You won't find the kind of sandbars that exist in California or Hawaii in many places. The water also will be rather cold even in the middle of summer. Cape Cod is your best bet, but it will not be cheap. There are commercial campgrounds, along with some in the national seashore. | 3
