Suggestions for 5-6 days

Hello there,
I am considering visiting Iceland mid November and wonder if anyone can give me some advice. I am planning to travel independently, yet wish to visit places outside Reykyavik, notably - of course - nature.

What do you suggest? What would be nice, also considering the time of year? What about money, is it still possible to use ATMs?

Which are the best places in Reykyavik to meet Icelanders?
