Student visa or volunteer visa

Hi all!

I have a quick Q for anyone Colombian/who knows a bit more about the visa system. I'm due to arrive in Colombia on 30 September. I'm doing some volunteer work with an organisation for 6 weeks, but am still technically a full-time student through my university because the volunteer work goes towards my degree. Does anyone know if it's necessary for me to purchase the $395 volunteer visa or if I can possibly get away with the $100ish student visa option. (Obviously I'd much prefer that, but don't want to get in trouble) Cheers guys!
