student discounts

Country forums / Cuba / Cuba

Is there student discounts prices at museum entrance and do they accept forigh student cards?
Cheers

No.

(Once you get to Cuba you'll realize how silly that notion is. Foreigners pay, pay, pay...)

Cheers,
Terry

Hi kolja, not that I am aware off. For example the Capitalio in Old Havana is 3 peso for Cubans and 3 dollars for tourists without a Cuban student card that they are attending school in Cuba. If you looked Cuban and go with your Cuban friends and they buy your ticket perhaps you can get in for 3 peso.

#2 provides some good advice: You can get the Cuban price if you look (or better, sound like) a Cuban and that is a massive discount. Same goes for many events, like the thatre, the ballet, concerts etc. You will not be asked to provide an ID (you usually need to show that for Astro buses, though).

In any case, museum entrances are not terribly exorbitant in Cuba. If it's a budget calculation you are doing, I think you should worry more about transport costs: this is the budget item that many budget tourists underestimate and it can blow your budget away. Unlike say food, you don't have too many options on transport. Same goes for communication costs: international phonecalls are unbelievably expensive, internet costs are pretty high too and the quality you get from both services is so low that you need to spend more time on them than you may originally think.
