Storing one's extra stuff in hotels when trekkingCountry forums / South America / Venezuela
After reading all those crime warnings and scary stories about Venezuela I am wondering if it is possible and wise to store one's extra stuff in hotels when going trekking there. I would like to do it at San Francisco de Yuruani (or possibly at Paraitepuy or Santa Elena de Uairén), Merida, and Maracay (or possibly at Turmero). I have done it in many countries of the world without any problem but anything can be for the first time. Should I expect any problems in Venezuela in this respect? Thanks.
The risk leaving you luggage in a hostel is the same as in other countries. There is always the possibility of a other tourist or a cleaning lady stealing something, but it will most likely not happen on a regular basis as the hostel (if it is in lonelyplanet) has a reputation to lose. Venezuela is special as crime with the disposition to violence is significantly higher than elsewhere. But this people are usually not working in a hostel. | 1

If hostels or posadas offer a safety box option, use it to store valuables. It will give you peace of mind. All the best, Thomas | 3
