Storing luggage at Snow Monkey park

Country forums / North-East Asia / Japan

Hi all, next week, we have a night booked at the inn inside the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park and we need to leave our two large suitcases somewhere. We know that you can leave them at the entrance near the shop but that is a long way to roll up suitcases, from where the bus stop is.
I have looked into storage options at Yudanaka train station but they seem to only have coin operated lockers and I am not sure if they will fit.
Currently in Shiga Kogen but hard to get any info and our hotel go to man/manager who spoke good English has just left . Thanks for any advice.

The ryokan you are staying at is the Korakukan?

Why and when do you need to leaver your luggage somewhere? That is, what are you going to do during the time that you are without luggage?

If you want to see the monkeys, the most natural thing would be to ask at the ryokan and very likely they would be fine for storing your luggage for some time. I never had a problem in Japan with storing luggage at an accommodation I was staying at.

Yudanaka station would be very far from the monkey park. The small shop at the entrance is small and might struggle with storing large luggage (but would likely try anyway if you asked nicely), but more importantly, as far as I remember the path there is not really suitable for large rolling suitcases....

Thanks for your reply. We are in Shiga Kogen and will take the bus to the SM bus stop in Kanbayashi Onsen and need to leave our cases somewhere while we go and spend a night in the park ryokan. I had imagined that we wouldn't be the first people doing this and that there might be an easily accessible storage option close to the bus stop. But there is just a small coin locker at the glass café next to the museum.

I see. So what I wrote does not really apply to your situation.

By "glass cafe" next to the museum do you mean Enza cafe? Apparently there is a suitcase icon on the Enza cafe sign (see here) which should refer to luggage storage. Might be worth trying to contact them.

Other than that, from what I saw, Kanbayashi Onsen did not look like a place I would expect to find lots of coin lockers or other luggage storage facilities.

Is takuhaibin (luggage forwarding) an option? Or could you take a taxi to the park ryokan?

Thanks. the glass café is the unexpected conical building next to the Roman museum. http://www.snowmonkeyresorts.com/activities/roman-museum/ . None of this was here when i first came 3 years ago.
Looks like Enza cafe could be an option but the taxi fare for the short (but long for suitcase wheels)walk uphill could be the same as the fare from Yudanaka station...
Otherwise looks like Yudanaka station has storage too and since we are going on to Nagano after it's an other option.
Thanks again for your advice.
