Stockholm - Old Town or New Town

Country forums / Scandinavia & the Nordics / Sweden

We'll be spending 4 nights in Stockholm during the first week of August this year.
What are the pros and cons of staying in either the old or new town?

Thanks - Myden

You need to check a map of Stockholm!

It is not that there is one Old Town and one New Town. Stockholm was originally built on one island, called The Town Island. Later it spread over fourteen islands, and later again also onto the mainland North and South of the 14 islands.

The Town Island is now called The Old Town. But there are many quite old sections on most of the rest of the city too. I live on The South Island which has been inhabited at least since the 16th century.

The Old Town is very cute and quaint. But it is also the least green section of Stockholm, being rather small and with no parks. And it is the most touristy part of Stockholm. I would think that it is the most expensive area to stay in, for what you get.
