Stockholm hotel/hostel experiences?

Hi: I'll be spending four days in Stockholm in early July. Can someone please make a recommendation for inexpensive accommodation? I would prefer to be in the old city center but prices may drive me out to the fringes. True? B and Bs are great if you know of them. Any help would be appreciated. Also, are there any outdoors festivals/music/arts going on around that period? What are a couple of "must sees"?

I can recommend a hostel that is not in the old town but is central to Stockholm centre (10 min walk) and close to coach/ trainn station.
I love it because of its position and the hostel is very good. Very clean. It has film nights downstairs, a pool table, etc. The staff are good and there is always free pasta everyone can use and people leave food they no longer need as they leave, so if you are short of cash, you can always rustle up some food.
The security is quite good also and there is a friendly atmoshphere. The prices are reasonable to. Hope you enjoy your stay wherever you find. I always do.

I stayed in Castanea Hostel (Old Towm) and Stockholm Hostel (Kungsholmen, near Sankt Eriks Plan), both nice, very different
Castanea is a small place in the heart of Old Town, Squeaky clean and charming, Stockholm hostel is brand new, very modern and in a quieter part of town.
You can read reviews (sounding "true", IMHO) on Hostelz.com, Hostelworld, etc...

Hello, please check our hostel (http://accohostel.com/), its one of the cheapest in Stockholm. Our prices start from 135SEK per person (nearly 15 euro). Also our hostel situated not far from the city centre.

There are also a couple of boat accommodations in Stockholm which might be a somewhat different experience and nice way to indulge in the 'water city'.

I have stayed at Gustaf af Klint, which was all good, great breakfast. They have both hostel and hotel accommodation options. It's located on the quays of the island Södermalm, which is only a 5 min. walk from the old town. The boats for Djurgården, with the tivoli (Gröna Lund), the zoo (Skansen) and many museums departs from Slussen which is practically next door.

There's also The Red Boat, haven't stayed there myself though.

Something I like to do when in Stockholm is having ice cream at Fjällgatan (which is on Södermalm, just above where the Gustaf af Klint hostel is). Follow the street until you find the little café and enjoy the splendid views of the city.

During the summer Stadsteatern (the city theatre) arranges Parkteatern (the park theatre) which is various free plays and performances in different parks around town. Most plays are in Swedish though, so is the schedule on the site, but might be nice spending a sunny evening in the park with some locals.

I also like visiting the Rosendal's gardens (www.rosendalstradgard.se) on Djurgården. They are the gardens of a former royal palace (musem today) and are open to the public. After a scenic stroll from the city center out to the gardens you can enjoy some delicious food in the café.
