Sri Lanka two-week itinerary

Hi all,

my girlfriend and I will go to Sri Lanka for two weeks from 24 Sept-7 October. After reading around I have come up with the itinerary below. We really like to do a mix of wildlife, beachtime and cultural sites.

Day 1: Arrive Colombo in the afternoon, stay overnight and see Pettah
Day 2: Bus to Habarana; Sigiriya rock in the afternoon – is this possible in one day? Overnight Habarana
Day 3: Polonnaruwa, overnight Habarana
Day 4: Bus to Kandy, overnight there
Day 5: Train to Ella, overnight Ella
Day 6: Horton Plains National Park, overnight Ella
Day 7: Ella & surroundings, overnight Ella
Day 8: Ella – Arugam Bay – is there a bus or would this be better done by car&driver?
Day 9: beach at Arugam Bay
Day 10: Bus to Kataragama, evening puja, overnight there
Day 11: Bus to Tissa, visit Uda Walawe National Park – is this possible in one day? Overnight in Tissa
Day 12: Bus to Galle, overnight there
Day 13: Bus to Negombo
Day 14: early morning flight back

Is this a doable itinerary? We probably need a private driver to the sites e.g. in the Cultural Triangle and Uda Walawe but can these city to city trips be done by public transport in this time? We don't mind getting around, but don't want too much transport stress of course.

Mirissa and Unawatuna sound really appealing too but as beach destination I understand for this time of the year not really advisable so we better stick to Arugam Bay? Ella might also get wet- will this be a problem?

Day 5 & 6 aren't effective
Day 5 stay in Nuwara Eliya and do HP do not go to Ella get off in Nanu oya and go to N"eliya
Day 6 Early morning visit to HP and take the train from Nanu oya to Ella
