Soccer match in Kingston

Hello,

I'm planing to visit the the soccer match Jamaica vs. Canada in Kingston (National Stadium).
Don't know yet if it will be in the afternoon or evening, so might have to spend the night in Kingston.

How is the best and safest way from Negril or Montego Bay? I was thinking to rent a car for two, or three days.
Have never been to Jamaica (and Kingston of course) yet, but I'm an experienced traveller.

Is it too dangerous as most people say stay away from Kingston?

You can rent a car and drive yourself, but the disavantage to that is finding your way around once you are in Kingston. Not exactly safe if you end up in the wrong neighborhood.
You can also hire a private taxi to take you to Kingston, and then hire another private taxi to take you around the city, but the disavantage to this is that it will cost you a bit more money. However, this will be the safest way.

The cheapest most efficient way is to leave from montego bay and take the Knutsford Express. its clean, safe , reliable and fast. it stops in New Kingston which is 12 minute drive to the National Stadium.
There are lots of hotels and guest houses available to stay in Kingston.

What is your preference??

The Knutsford Express only goes from moBay to New Kingston. To leave fron negril would take longer and would be more expensive.

Take the Knutsford Express, from Mobay, ( why worry about the cost and traffic, and parking and security, when you really want to watch the match?) Take private taxi in Kng. to and from hotel ( it's cheap).

Try Sandhurst Hotel on Sandhurst Crescent for good, low-cost accommodations.

The Knutsford Express sounds to be the best option,
so I will make the trip by bus to Kingston.

As for the accomodation I prefer a cheap guest house
or hotel in or near the centre in a safer area of the city.

You guys are absolutely right about the Knutford Bus service to Kingston.
I do not how I completely forgot about that bus service.
It would be cheaper and safer for him to go with it.

ackeepod, didn't you stay at Sandhurst and find it an excellent deal and only about 10 min. by taxi from New Kng.? "Cheap" and in the middle of New Kng. ( if this is what you mean by "centre") aren't likely to happen.. And even there you aren't going to do much rambling around on foot after dark.

I stayed at Sandhurst Guest House .. clean , safe and about 50-60 US$ per night.. close to New Kgn and the Stadium ...

The Indies Hotel is also in the New Kgn area . safe ..affordable ..also in this price range ..
