Snorkeling Vanuatu?Interest forums / Diving & Snorkelling
I'm heading to Vanuatu for 4 days at the beginning of October and will be staying in Port Vila. Any recommendations on snorkel tours around the island...or even day long trips away on other islands? Has anyone tried the "Survivor" tour? Read that it includes boat ride, snorkeling, etc so it sounded interesting. On a side note, I'll be in New Zealand for four days as well...anyplace to snorkel around Auckland? Thanks!
In Auckland there is Goat Island Marine Reserve about an hour north but the water will be way too cold as it is still winter. | 1
Thanks sandysea! So I guess I'll head to Rotorua and do some zorbing?! Ever since The Amazing Race I always wanted to try that...and sledging. | 2
You could consider heading up to the Poor Knights Islands north of Aukland. I've forgotten how long the drive was, but you'd have time to do it with your 4 days if you like the sound of it. Jaques Cousteau rated the diving in his top 10 spots in the world - I thought it was amazing. Cold (17'C) but they had good thick wetsuits and hot soup on the boat after!, thick kelp you rummaged into to look for creatures, beautiful caves and rock formations, just totally different to tropical diving. These are the excellent guys we dived with - Tutukaka. | 3
I'm going to Vila this October too but for less than 1 day as visiting via cruiseship. Have done some research and reckon that you can snorkel almost anywhere round Vanuatu. However I have booked a tour to Lelepa Island, one of Vanuatu's best snorkeling spots, with lelepatours which includes snorkelling. You can also go on a kayaking & snorkeling tour- several companies offer this. Go wild! | 4
Thanks for the tip ilesley! Looking at their website right now and may go ahead and schedule a tour with them. Speaking of which, when is your cruise ship scheduled to dock in Vila? Just been reading that things could be hectic when a cruise ship stops by. Thanks cooley^3! =) Actually plan on going to Rotorua and do some land (and sky) activities instead. May do some sledging or Waitomo cave tour if I decide to get wet. =D | 5
