snorkeling and underwaterphotographyrecommendations in NZ?Country forums / Australia, New Zealand & Antarctica / New Zealand
I'd like to go to New Zealand and I'd like to do some snorkeling and underwaterphotography while I'm there. Does anyone have any recommendations about where to go? I like to go as a backpacker and could be interested in camping, but I don't like dormitories much (I like to get a room on my own) - but still go on a budget. Also I like to go to places with a great atmosphere and people - where it's easy to get to know ohters as a female solo-traveler. Any tips for me? :)
Hey there... I don't know the best places for snorkeling, but i'm sure there is a lot of info that you can find on-line. I spent a couple months in NZ a couple of years ago and my wife and I are going back in March. If you want any advice on kick-butt places to go, stay, etc... let me know, i'd be more than happy to help. Elliotwest1@yahoo.com | 1
As well as Goat Island there are some great spots a bit further North too - Poor Knights Islands Marine reserve - clear, clear water, unique habitat and great marine life. And the Bay of Islands has good visibility as well .......... | 2
I agree. Goat island and poor nights islands are the best places. Both have great campsites. The campsite at poor nights is a short walk to where the boats leave from - may be better for diving than snorkelling. While goat island has amazing snorkelling right from the shore. Both are fantastic places to stay. | 3
