Six weeks from shimla to Leh

Hi, I'm arriving in Shimla at the end of August, looking to head to kaza, manalai, leh etc was wondering if there's a good itinerary i could roughly follow and some must do treks to get the most out of the area.. I'm pretty fit and competent hiker looking to take lots of photos and experience a bit of culture. I was thinking going from Shimala to Kaza and doing a homestay trek for a week to get into the swing of things and not entirely sure what to do next... I'm leaving it kind of open to going with the flow when I get there, but I'd be disappointment if I didn't give enough time to maybe Ladakh toward the other end of my stay in the region and missed out on something major. Any ideas? Favorites? I'm planning on flying out of Leh in early October and on to Mumbai...
