Singapore hotel for senior people +70

Country forums / South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula / Singapore

A reunion is coming up for my mother and her sisters in May.

They are all +70 (4-5 people).
They all come from different countries to meet in Singapore.

Their budget for the hotel is 40-50 SGD/night f/double with private toilet (maybe this is set too low?).
Since they are seniors I guess they would like to have the location close by.
- Not all are as mobile as most people in this forum so taking e.g. a ½-1 hour bus back and forth is not a good idea.
Walking around is not much of a problem for them.

Their interest are beside the re-union - food!
I've been advised that Little India is closer than China Town to the city/center.
Other than this I don't know much about Singapore.

Can you help in providing some useful info of recommended hotels within the mentioned budget and contact info/location?

Thanks,
Kevin

Its too low.

The best at SGD$48 is the Inn Crowd Backpackers, and that might be shared facs.

Too hard to get it under SGD$50 for a cheap place. with own bath & toilet.

Maybe SGD$100 you could get something.

Double for SGD$50??? Inn Crowd is the only double at under SGD$50.

Getting around by using the MRT with stored value tix is chicken feed/feet easy.

Little India is indeed good, very good in fact.

Are all of them used to the humidity of Singapore?

People who have not been there can say, ahhhhh, it can't be too bad, but its cooking hot, till you get used to it!!!

Come to think of it, the Inn Crowd is stairs, they might have lifts but I have not taken an indept look.

With a lot of the backpackers being retrofitted old shop houses, using stair cases up and down is going to be hard, esp on the knees.

Tell them, seriously, they have to up the budget for a place that will have lifts.

Fragrance Hotels are not that expensive, they have lifts, but they are the "pink light" hotel type of place. Hotel 81 types are similar.

Its hard to get anything that is "older persons" suitable for cheapies in Singapore. The good hotels are about SGD$150 or more with lifts, own bath & toilets, aircond, etc.

This one is in Little India, has lifts, has own toilet & bath, and sure to be close to the MRT.

But its SGD$150 per room per night.

If 3 share a room at SGD$170 per night, thats about right, SGD$50 x 3=SGD$150, SGD$170 is only $20 more.

Assume that 5 people take 2 rooms, that would still be SGD$340 per night!

Thats SGD$70 per person, can they increase they collective budget to $70, instead of $50?

That might be the best thing, either that or take a Frangrance hotel or a Hotel 81 hotel room.

Jesus, daycat, can you put it one post????

anyway, OP, here is one hotel site, here is another.

It doesn't really matter where you stay. As daycat points out, the MRT is superb, cheap, and goes everywhere. Taxi's are not that pricey.

buy the stored value card when you first enter your nearest MRT, and then forget about worry.

It is, as he says, humid, but there are air conditioners everywhere. You can practically walk the length of orchard road underground.

The food is incredible, and I suggest that you try the hawker stalls.

Not to be missed, also, is breakfast with the orangutans.

Here are some suggestions of what to do in Sillypore, and here is a few moresuggestions.

1B&B (www.1bnbsingapore.com/) has doubles for S$70-90 with a good hot breakfast. They fill up quickly, though, so reserve early. They are very near to the train station on the 25th floor with great views of the container shipping yard far below. About a 4 minute walk to the bus stop (they'll give you directions on how to get where you want to go by bus) or a 10 minute walk to the Outram MRT Station. I haven't yet found a better deal in Singapore for the money. Rooms are clean, they throw in computer and/or wireless access, and it's a nice, homey place. The S$90 a night room has a private toilet, and the S$70 ones have a toilet right outside the room.
