I would take the train, because it's more comfortable, safe and fun than the bus. The rail lines are linked from Singapore, Malaysia to Thailand.

I would definately take the train to. Much cheaper and heaps more interesting and comfortable. You can pre-purchase tickets at www.ktmb.com.my up to 60 days in advance. Also check out www.seat61.com for more train tips in asia.

I agree with the other two. You can stopover on route and take overnight trains. The following website should give you all the information that you need.

As you can see, the train trip is quite lengthy...no problem if you have plenty of time.
Another option is to go by bus.
There is a direct bus connection from the "Golden Mile" Shopping Centre in Singapore to Bkk - and these buses are COMFORTABLE (24-seaters, I think). Quite cheap, too...around 120 SGD, if I remember it right. Ok, it's a bit of a tour de force (a comfortable one, tho) - around 30 hours on the road. Some companies go to Had Yai where you have to change the bus on to Bkk. Every travel agency in Golden Mile can give you the details and a respective ticket.

I have taken the train and enjoyed the journey.

But
....for the quickest, take express buses or hire a private taxi.

....for the easiest, take the KTM train from Singapore to Butterworth, then SRT train from Butterworth to Bangkok. Second class sleepers are airconditioned and quite clean and comfortable on KTM and SRT trains.

....for the cheapest, take 170 bus to Johore Larkin bus station. From there ride the non airconditioned stage (local) buses connecting about 10 small towns until you get to the Thai Malay border. Then illegal taxi or Songtiew into Hatyai. From Hatyai find a minibus or upgrade to a Thai Government bus all the way into Bangkok OR non aircond 3rd class train from Hatyai to Bangkok.

Good luck.
