Similian Islands

My girlfriend and I are going to thailand again In march.. for 3 weeks.. So far we are going to Koh phan yang/Krabi & Phi phi, we have
about 7 days spare which we havent decided what we are going to do in that time,

Ive heard lots about the similian Islands.. Would it be worth heading over there for say 7 days? If my girlfriend and I dont dive ??

we do love snorkling though.

so what do you say? are the similian islands worth checking out?? And if so.. where should we stay/base our selves there???
we wouldnt want anything to remote.. as we do like to have a drink at a bar at night and eat out..

( we would be leaving from phuket ( seeing friends there ) so also how would we get to teh similian islands from phuket )

The Similans are very scenic and definitely worth visiting.

The Similans have no privately owned accommodation - only a goverment run operation with tents and basic bungalows. They are worth spending a night on, but not 7 days. If you want, Khao Lak is actually the closest point to the Similans, and many shops offer daily trips to the Similan Islands - being able to sleep in your own bed and enjoy the nights out in town. The best of both worlds.

Another Advantage of Khao Lak is that you can also do trips to the Surin Islands, which are even better for snorkeling and camping. Still - quiet islands, but very scenic. Again, an easy daytrip from Khao Lak.

As for leaving Phuket, Get to the main bus station in Phuket Town, where you will have many touts approach you...just say Khao Lak, and they will plop you on the correct bus. 2nd class about 70 baht - 3 hours. 1st class about 100 baht - 2 hours.

AND IF U GO TO PHUKET. BY CANOE TOUR TO HONG ISLAND

The best way to do The Similans is on a Liveaboard. So from what you say in your post, I don't think it's an option. Are you looking for another beach resort?

not looking for a beach resort..

Just a basic bungalow ( + air con would be nice haha ?) and some nice beaches to snorkel coulple places to eat.. and somewhere to have a beer or 2 at night..
