Simikot-Mt. Kailash trek summer 2011Country forums / North-East Asia / Tibet
Hello! We're planning a trek from Simikot in Nepal to Mt. Kailash in Tibet, then on to Lhasa before flying back to Kathmandu. We're two persons at the moment, the dates are not set yet but the trip would be some time between June-August 2011. Summer is not the best time to trek in Nepal but I've understood that the areas near the Tibetan border are in the Himalayan rain shadow so the monsoon wouldn't be that much of a problem in that area. We're thinking about extending the trek in Nepal compared to the "normal route" to the Tibetan border, we'd like to trek through the Limi Valley and over Nyalu La, which I suppose would take almost twice as long as the normal route to the border. Has anyone done it that way, I'd be very happy to hear experiences and recommendations? Is it worth the extra time/effort/money? I've talked with a Nepalese trekking agent but haven't asked yet how much more expensive this detour would make the trip. Also, if there's anyone out there with similar plans who would like to share the costs, please let me know! The trip will be very expensive anyway, but a little less so with a few more people... Hi we are also planning the same route to Mt. Kailash via Simikot in September 2011. But we will be planning to come back by helicopter to Nepalgunj and complete the trip in 17 to 18 days. | 1
I know of a good agent that does that route (Limi and Nyalu La). It's Firante.com. Highly recommended: honest, reliable, friendly. | 2
