Shipping bikes from Europe to US

My boyfriend and I will be finishing up a bicycle tour in a month. We would like to ship our bikes from Italy to the US. We are going to Asia after which is why we can't fly with them. The best price we have seen so far is $450. Does anyone know of cheaper shipping for large items. We are not in any hurry to get them back as we will be gone for the next year. Thanks ahead for the information.

I recommend consulting a freight forwarder in Italy that has branches in the US and can make the necessary arrangements for your bikes to be shipped by sea to you in the US (although you might need to send them to someone - relative, friend, etc) for them to pick them up at the nearest location.

You might check the post office for prices. I mailed my bike from Chile to US, Alaska for about $220 in the Chilean Post. Took about a month and it got there just fine.
