Semana Santa Popayan or Medellin Colombia

Hello All

I will be traveling in Colombia during Semana Santa.

I was wondering what is the festival like? Is their music? parades? fiestas?

Thinking of heading either to Popayan or Medellin for the Semana Santa. Popayan is suppose to have a very popular celebration I was wondering if there is anything similar in Medellin.

So, is worth heading to Popayan?

Any observations, recommendations or stories of Semana Santa would be much appreciated.

If you want to party then rodadero near santa marta is awsome, and will be packed. Cartagena will be packed as well. Mompox also has a semena santa celebration like popyan.

Popayan has the second biggest easter celebrations in the world (after Sevilla, Spain) and by law, everyone who lives in the Centro Historico (the famous white colonial centre) has to paint their building brilliant white and have also been instructed to be on their best behaviour during the the Holy week. Quite a spectacle! If you are at the wrong end of the country and can't make it to Popayan you'll have an excellent time in Mompox.

Semana Santa in Popayan is good so as hosteltrail said it is the second biggest.
