scooter ride (country roads) Rome or Florence to MonticchielloCountry forums / Western Europe / Italy
Hi guys, I'm looking at a possible trip to Italy with my wife. I'm an experienced scooter rider and have ridden on the east coast and in NYC. We're not in a rush and I don't mind a long ride. Can I rent a 125cc scooter from either Rome or Florence, and ride relaxed pace to Monticchiello on non-highway roads? If so, would it be better to do this from Rome or Florence? (we can fly to either). Or I was thinking of flying to Rome, scooting to Monticchiello and then scooting to Florence for a return flight. However I suspect returning to a different city might be difficult. Much thanks for any advice here! ps - wife doesn't know about trip yet.
Most scooter hire is local so I am not sure you will find one to hire in Rome and drop off in Florence. You could do it without hitting the motorway but remember it is not so much the traffic that is a problem, it is windy, hilly, narrow roads. | 1
Well, Florence is nearer but still a long way. Why not make your way to Siena first, 75 minutes by hourly express bus from Florence , and hire your scooter there, then you can at least enjoy the rural lanes of southern Tuscany without too much traffic. As richiavo says, hire and return to the same place. Are you thinking of staying in an agriturismo? | 2

What about if flying to Rome? What would be a good city to take a bus to and then rent a scooter? | 4
