San Salvador to La Ceiba by busCountry forums / Central America / Honduras
Hi everybody, Six of my friends and I (seven total) are trying to get from San Salvador to La Ceiba, Honduras, by bus. We'd like to leave this Tuesday (April 8), and get there quickly but without spending a ton of money - do you have any recommendations? From what I can tell King Quality has a bus from San Salvador to San Pedro Sula - from there, what are our options to La Ceiba? Also, any ideas about how to get back to San Salvador on Sunday (April 13)? Will we be able to just reverse what we did to get there? Are bus schedules different on Sundays? We have some ideas of what we'd like to do in La Ceiba (snorkel, hang out in the forest, hike) but do any of you have any advice of fun, cheap activities in the area? We'd also like to visit a Garifuna community - any advice about that? Central America on a Shoestring said that April 12 was Garifuna day - does anybody know anything about that? We are thinking about staying at either the Rotterdam or the Amsterdam - does anyone have a preference between the two? Thanks for your help!
Hedman Alas runs express buses with A/C 4x per day from SPS to La Ceiba: There's a new bus terminal in SPS that houses all the bus companies (except King Quality for some reason), so if Hedman is too much $$$, you should be able to find other bus companies that run the route. But Hedman shouldn't cost much more than King Quality, which you are already considering. | 1
Get local papers (La Prensa Grafica and El Diario de Hoy) and look at the classifieds. There are usually ads for excursions to Honduras... | 2
