San Pedro to La Cieba

Country forums / Central America / Honduras

Hello,

A friend and I are flying into San Pedro on a Monday evening and flying out on a Tuesday morning. Does anyone know if there is a late night bus from San Pedro to La Cieba, or do we have to wait until the morning. If we have to wait does anyone have any suggestions on affordable/safe/clean hotels in San Pedro close to the airport and/or bus station? Also any suggestions on bus lines from San Pedro to La Cieba?

Thanks for your help!

Jillian

It might be worth checking into flights, too. We found the extra cost to be a reasonable expense when it meant sleeping in La Ceiba and either having a full tour the next day (like rafting) or catching the morning ferry. There was a 9 or 10pm flight last time we did that but it's been a few years and airlines have come and gone since then.

My favorite bus line in Honduras is Hedman Alas but they don't do night buses. Happy trails!

I agree with hopefulist - Hedman Alas is the bus to go. Check their site: www.hedmanalas.com for schedules
I can't remember if they have late night buses (I don't think so).
You can also try the Metropol Hotel near the airport - it's a little pricy, but it comes with a huge breakfast buffet.
We splurged and stayed there last year on our return home. We figured by the time we paid $25 US for a cab into San Pedro and then another $25 back to the airport the next day, we were not saving much. Also this is a clean, comfortabe, very safe hotel - the staff are excellent. And it's only 10 minutes from the airport.
Safe travelling....

dosgitanos - Is it the Metrotel you're talking about? It used to be in the Microtel chain but branched out a few years ago. We stayed there in 2005 when an emergency back home cut our trip short; we had to stay by the airport for an early flight. It's not long on charm but it was clean, comfortable, and safe and that's what we needed.
