San Blas in January

Hello there. Will be in Panama for 10 days or so in mid-Jan. and wanted to do 3-5 days in San Blas Islands. My experience in Latin America in the past is that you always get a better deal on travel/accommodations by waiting and doing things in person rather than reserving ahead of time. But I know Jan. can be a bit of a tourist season down there. Would you suggest making reservations ahead of time or winging it?

My wife and I always wing it......if it is crowded, we always find a place, we just sometimes pay more than we planned!
