Roatan for NYE

Country forums / Central America / Honduras

Hi:

I was thinking about going to Roatan right after xmas through New Years. I'm a solo woman traveller and I have travelled by myself to other areas, never in CA.

My questions are: Is it safe? (I know no place is safe ). I 've seen your discussions back and forth. It appears the islands are safer than the mainland.

I don't dive, but I do snorkel. Are there other things to do? Ruins? Hiking? Sailing? I can only sit in the sun for so long.

Is there a centrally located hotel near the nightime activity/bar restaurants area so I don't have to walk home drunk in the pitch dark. (I'm just being honest).

I was thinking about Lands End, Mame Tree or Posada Arco Iris.

Any help/thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I stayed at half moon bay resort cabins. it's about 5 minutes walk from the main drag, and quiet. the dirt road is safe to walk at night. It cost $55 and is right on the water, with easy access via a stairway and dock. No sketch sitches or kootchabugs, not that i could see.

Land's End is pretty far down the dirt road at the one end of West End, I think it'd be a dark walk at night. Arco Iris would be a better bet (or Chillies, Coconut Tree Cabins, Seabreeze are all along the main road- I know a few people that have stayed at Arco Iris and really enjoyed it).

No ruins anywhere close by (Copan would be an overnight trip), but there's sailing, ziplining, horseback riding, paddleboarding, windsurfing, dune buggies, trips to Cayos cochinos, Pigeon Cays, sea plane, and other fun stuff to do. You'll be fine traveling on your own. If you need any company while you're here, just send me a pm, we can always meet up somewhere for a drink.

Overall, its safe, but a female late nite on a dark desolate road, is not the best judgement, in Honduras or USA. think about it.

But its pretty low key in the west end, I stayed at Blennys house, there are other places on the end of the of this road too, but just so you know, not much beach, its all rock shoreline, though you can snorkel right there.

Why not get Open Water Certified, its only $300 and if you like the tropics, and beaches and oceans, its a good thing to have for life.

I recommend THE SEA BREEZE or ARCO IRIS
