Hello... well I want to go to Roatan but I really don't know which hotels are best there!! i need a cheap hotel but comfortable and some advices of restaurants and clubs... how much could you spend in a trip of 3 days??
I had the same problem trying to decide and after looking it all over decided to stay at Luna Beach. We got a room for $72 a night. I wanted to be on the beach and within walking distance to restaurants. | 1
We just got back from Roatan this week... We stayed at Posada las Orquideas for a week, which is an easy 5 minute walk to restaurants, etc. in "downtown" West End. We had a nice bright, large studio on the 2nd floor with a double and single bed, bathroom with hot water, kitchenette with dishes, etc. and large porch with a hammock, which was US $54/night. Our last two nights we moved to a room on the first floor, and we paid only US$35. The room was equally nice - the only difference seemed to be that it was on the first floor. All rooms at las Orquideas look out over Mangrove Bight, and there is a nice breeze that blows off the water, so A/C is not necessary. Free Internet for email and a one-for-one book exchange are available on site, as is laundry service ($7/load) and beer/softdrinks for sale. Although there is no beach, as mentioned, it is only 5 minutes to Half Moon Bay. Las Orquideas' "sister" hotel, Arco Iris is right on Half Moon Bay, and because they are owned by the same person, we were able to use the lounge chairs and ocean kayaks on the beach there, which was nice and convenient. We spent most of our time staked out on this beach. "Sundowners" - a really popular bar - is located right on the beach at Half Moon Bay. For "cheap eats", try Creole Rotisserie Chicken - you can get a half chicken dinner with two sides for 140 Lempiras - there was enough for my DH, myself and my toddler. Cannibal Cafe has yummy shrimp tacos and steak tacos, at 120L/taco and 85L/taco, respectively. Having the kitchenette, we self-catered quite a bit, though, doing most of our grocery shopping at Woody's, which is right beside Arco Iris on Half Moon Bay. You can pick up fresh produce from pick-up trucks parked along the main street, as well as shrimp (90L/pound) or lobster tails, which you can cook up at the hotel. On Sundays only there's a grill set up beside Woody's, serving up chicken/beef/pork with potato salad, beans and a tortilla for 80/90L a plate. Have a great time - it's a really nice place! | 2
I have a question.... do you have a phone number so I can comunicate and do a reservation there?? do you have any other advice??? | 3
The website for Las Orquideas is http://www.posadalasorquideas.com/ - you can make reservations on-line. There's also a link to the site for Arco Iris. Re: more advice - I'm hoping to write up and post a trip report this weekend, unless there is some specific info that you're looking for in the interim... | 4
I second Las Orquideas. We stayed there for a week in April last year and really loved it. We paid cash, so got a discount. We had a room on the second floor and got a great breeze every night but one. I would definitely stay there again. The people who own the hotel also own the Argentinian restaurant. It's pricey, but the servings were huge (and good). Loved the Creole chicken place, and we ate there twice. The coconut rice and the coleslaw were fabulous with the chicken. | 5
