Road trip to Newfoundland!

Hello there!
My family and I are wanting to plan a road trip from Ottawa to north sydney (where we will then take a ferry to newfoundland) we want to go near the middle of August, and have until the 1st of September for this trip. We debated driving so we could stop along the way and see as many sights (make as many memories!) As possible. We would like to spend enough time upon arrival to enjoy and see St John's, so we are still toying with the idea of simply taking a plane so we can focus on that. Im just posting this to get some ideas, places to see, and possibly stories of people who have done this before?
