Right Itinerary Peru - BoliviaCountry forums / South America / Peru
Hi, I plan to arrive the 3rd of march in Lima, then crossing Peru to go to La Paz, Bolivia, in approximately 18 days. 3-6 march : arriving and staying in Lima What do you guys think of that itinerary ? Would you recommend anything ? Thank you.
Without knowing what you are doing where (and thats ok), I might suggest flying to Arequipa and then bus to Cuzco rather than flying to Cuzco. It would help with acclimatization, and there are easy direct links on tourist busses from Cusco to Puno. It it a bit less of a bus journey that way. Also I don't know if you have left enough time to get to the Colca Canyon and back to Arequipa, although I suppose tours do quick in and out trips. You could cut a day out of Lima since you don't like cities or museums. That would give a bit more time in Bolivia, to go to Corico perhaps. | 1
Yes, as you don't like big cities one day in Lima would be enough. If you want to hike down into the Colca Canyon you might want to add a day there. We took a bus to Cabanaconde and went hiking on our own but you can also take a tour from Arequipa. | 2
Based on your stated interests (not interested in museums, etc) I'd suggest you spend no more than 2 nights in Lima at the beginning. And also spend only 2 nights in La Paz at the end, instead of the 4? nights you were thinking of. You only need 2-3 hours time to do the Valle de la Luna from La Paz. I'd use the extra time between Arequipa/Colca Canyon and Lake Titicaca. Stop in Puno on your way to Bolivia, and go out to Isla Amantani for an overnight visit. You can go on to Copacabana afterwards, and still go out to Isla del Sol. It's great to visit multiple islands on Lake Titicaca. | 3
Looks very well planned out, I might just use this itinerary to plan my own trip thanks for that | 4
Thank you guys very much of the feedbacks, I am definitely going to follow your advices and only stay two nights in Lima and stay longer in the Arequipa/Colca Canyon. Thanks for the reply, you are helping me a lot | 5
Corioco is about 3 hours from la Paz, but it's an overnight trip, not a day trip, because you need some time to go hiking. You get there by taking a combi van from the Villa Fatima neighborhood northeast from the center. Boats out to visit islands on Lake Titicaca are extremely cheap. The tour groups leaving from Puno that include an overnight homestay are really cheap too. The island visits you do there will likely be the cheapest part of your trip. | 6
Perfecto, gracias :) | 7 | |

How long is the bus from Cuzco to Arequippa and where do you take it please ? How much does it cost ? | 9
Take a taxi to the bus terminal in Cusco (Terminal Terrestre). There are several bus companies that go to Cusco. We took an overnight bus with Civa. There is also Oltursa, Cruz del Sur... It is 10-11 hours. The price depends on what kind of bus you choose, how far the seats recline... (anything from $11 to $35 and although you don't have to take the most expensive option the cheapest option might not be a good idea either). Just check the bus company websites. I did not go from Arequipa to Cusco but again, you would take a taxi to the bus terminal. I believe it takes 6.5 hours. If you are going to the Colca Canyon you can consider taking a tourist bus from Chivay to Puno: 4M Express or Rutas del Sur. Just check their website to read about stops (they are tourist buses so they make a few stops) and prices. | 10
